Converting a degraded lawn at the edge of an especially wild and productive yard in Marin County.
Recognizing, creating and working with existing conditions is at the heart of success for any pollinator garden and this one is no exception.
While low lying areas below are full of willows, rushes and filled in with other native riparian plant species, the lawn above will be comprised of upland plants including bunch grasses, flowering creeping perennials and shrubs.
A little bit of experimenting with the methods and having the perfect tool for the job gets the broad brush strokes of preparation done quickly, allowing more time for the more delicate job of planting. We also sprinkled lots of yarrow seed heads in the area and will soon seed between plugs with wildflowers and red fescue.
