It seems nature never fails to inspire when we need it the most.
Variable checkerspot (Euphydryas chalcedonas) butterflies disappeared from nearly everywhere in San Francisco decades ago.
Now they are back in the GGNRA’s Presidio in force thanks to a re-introduction by the National Park Service. Like other recent reintroductions this has been an amazing success, as hundreds of larvae are present this year on their larval food. And this one line adult was just hatching out.
Hopeful for more metamorphosis and beauty as we fathom the state of the world.
Keep Looking Up.
