Our Team

Cédric “Third Eye Cédric"
Known to some of his friends as the Cedgehog, is the crew supervisor, truck driver, and sawyer. His knowledge of botany, birds, and ecology is encyclopedic as he keeps up-to-date with the ever-changing scientific names of plants.
Also curious by nature, Cédric cares about every species he encounters, native non-native or unknown, and goes to great lengths to deepen his understanding about them. A lifelong resident of Pacifica until recently, Cédric has quickly become one of the top birders in San Francisco county, and is one of the magical creatures who seems to attract rare flora and fauna everywhere he goes.
Josiah’s relationship goes back to over half his life back to when he was a 13 year old birder. They still enjoy birding and working together after all these years.

“Ball of Lightning” Blake
Actor, burner, orator extraordinaire. His passion for the work and conversation alike spurs the crew to action, where Blake serves as a spark plug for spirited volleys. Hailing from Kentucky, Blake arrived with an impressive botanical and horticultural knowledge and a seemingly endless curiosity for the natural world. Blake’s botanical expertise is perhaps best illustrated by his ability to identify the dozens of confusing and obscure grasses, the likes of which most city gardeners could not.

Max "A Million"
A nature archivist, lifelong resident of the presidio, birdwatcher and fanatic naturalist with over 22,000 iNaturalist observations. At 21 years old he is a local expert of nudibranchs, slime molds, lichens, not to mention birds. Max studied at Humboldt state with a special interest in wildlife and natural history. He has an impeccable memory not just for plant species but also how many tools we had on the job and where every person may’ve left their pick. He has been with the crew around a year and we were overjoyed in month 2 when we discovered he has the rare gift of poison oak immunity, so we often know just where to put him to work.

Dylan
While initially more familiar with conjugating Latin than navigating a slope, Dylan took to the work like a duck to water. Dylan takes his literary and academic pursuits seriously, having a deep interest in latin, etymology, and literature, where he is a teacher’s aid and lecturer on feudalism. Dylan also yields the superpower of poison oak immunity.

Elena
A native plant expert. Our crew was lucky to nab Elena from CNL plant nursery where she was a much valued and knowledgeable member of the staff. She has an extensive horticultural knowledge and totes work smarts from as near as her hometown of SD and as far as the fisheries of Alaska. Strong and steady, Elena has the heart of an angel and the strength of an Ox.

Dennis “The Diligent Rasta”
With the longest commute, Dennis is often the first to arrive and to make sure that tools are accounted for at the end of the day.
As a dedicated artist and fisherman, Dennis has a deep appreciation and ability to decipher the language of nature. He is especially sensitive to salamanders, voles, mice, and soft, small-bodied creatures that may get hurt. Dennis seems to have a special touch when it comes to small motors, sharpening chains, knives. Everyone feels like they can share their joys and troubles with Dennis. His quick wit, clever insights, and heart of gold make him everybody’s favorite crew member. Note: Keep him away from poison oak.

Rob
Hailing from Eureka and known as “Humboldt Jesus,” Rob makes the trip down now and then and puts in serious licks on the job site. Originally from Texas but now seeped in knowledge of the north woods, at 6’5” Robert brings not only brawn but a deep care about the environment of California. Robert’s deep knowledge of mushroom foraging easily transfers well to a deep botanical interest. Robert is studying to get his qualified applicators license for herbicide and has begun native plant propagation at his property in Humboldt. Josiah met Rob on the salmon fishing grounds a decade ago and they still spend every minute on the water they can.
About Josiah Clark
California Contractors License #1043929
Consulting Ecologist & Founder of Habitat Potential

Josiah studied Restoration Ecology at University of California Santa Cruz, where he earned his degree in Environmental Studies. Soon after graduating he and a friend started a native nursery called Nature’s Acres Nursery. The idea for a native plant nursery came to him with the realization that native plants must ultimately do the majority of the work to heal damaged land.
As a consulting ecologist, Josiah cut his teeth on many large scale infrastructure preservation projects that deal with educating and demonstrating sound, land stewardship, management and and maintenance practices. In 2002 he founded Habitat Potential.
He has written for many online publications including: Bay Nature Magazine, The Clapper Rail a Marin Audubon Society Newsletter, The Golden Gate & The Sequoia Audubon Societies, and has been featured in articles in the Golden Gate Audubon Society, SFGATE, SFWEEKLY, VICE & The NEW YORK TIMES.
